Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Released

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to take place in Morocco, marking a highly anticipated return of the tournament to the North African nation. Scheduled from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, this edition will see 24 teams competing for continental glory. Morocco last hosted AFCON in 1988, making this a historic moment for the country as it continues to establish itself as a major football hub. The tournament will be played across six cities: Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Fez, Agadir, and Marrakech, ensuring a wide distribution of matches across Morocco’s top footballing venues.

To prepare for AFCON 2025, Morocco has invested heavily in upgrading its football infrastructure. Several stadiums are undergoing renovations to meet international standards, with the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier set to expand its capacity to 75,600 seats. The Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat will host the opening match and final, highlighting the country’s commitment to delivering a world-class tournament. These improvements align with Morocco’s broader vision of becoming a key destination for major football events, including its role as a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The group stage draw, conducted on January 27, 2025, has set up exciting matchups. Morocco, as the host nation, leads Group A, facing strong competition from Mali, Zambia, and Comoros. Defending champions Ivory Coast will compete in Group F against Cameroon, Gabon, and Mozambique. The tournament will follow a format where the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stage, ensuring a highly competitive race for the title.

Beyond football, the tournament represents a major opportunity for Morocco to showcase its tourism and organizational capabilities. With thousands of fans expected to travel to the country, cities hosting AFCON matches are preparing to offer top-tier hospitality and cultural experiences. This event is also expected to boost the local economy, generating revenue through tourism, merchandise sales, and increased global exposure. Morocco has a proven track record of hosting successful international events, including the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023, making it well-equipped for AFCON 2025.

As anticipation builds, the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations promises to be a thrilling spectacle. With top teams competing, improved stadiums, and Morocco’s passion for football, the tournament is expected to leave a lasting impact on African football. Fans across the continent and beyond will be eagerly watching as Morocco hosts one of the most prestigious competitions in African sports history.
